Crews Warn of Wildfire Danger

The Texas Forest Service is getting nervous about the hot dry conditions, and are issuing wildfire advisories, 1200 WOAI News reports.

“The arm and dry weather this weekend will accelerate drying of vegetation across the state ahead of critical fire weather forecast for across west Texas next week,” Tom Spencer of the TFS told 1200 WOAI news.  “An increased potential for accidental fire starts will be present through this period, with the highest potential occurring when active fire weather is present.”

Officials say vegetation dryness is increasing around the state.  San Antonio and Bexar county firefighters have already been called to several brush fires in recent days, mainly fires along highways caused by people tossing cigarette butts out of windows, or catalytic converters catching brush on fire when a car pulls off the pavement.

Crews are urging residents to observe local burn banks, and be careful when driving and in conducting outdoor activities like barbecuing.
