Nicki Minaj is speaking out about the backlash over her acceptance speech at Sunday's BET Awards.

As she accepted her fifth award for Best Female Hip Hop artist, Nicki  emphasized that she takes part in writing all her songs, leading some to believe she was taking a shot at fellow nominee Iggy Azalea

On Twitter, Nicki blamed the media for distorting her words.  She explains that her words were meant to be a celebration of women's songwriting.  Furthermore, the "Queen Barb" points out that she's publicly congratulated Iggy on the success of her hit song "Fancy," adding "she should be very proud of that."  Nicki also praised fellow female songwriters Lauryn Hill and Missy Elliott for their inspiration.

Iggy Azalea also took to Instagram to address what she called the "general explosion of pettiness" that's arisen since Nicki's speech.  Iggy says she's "unbothered by anything that 'happened' at the BET Awards."  She's also "worn out" with people trying to create wars between her and other artists.
